PlumSense Extension Cable Specifications
Technical specifications for the PlumSense extension detection cable, an accessory that plugs into a PlumAssist puck to expand leak detection coverage.
Overview
PlumSense is an extension detection cable that plugs into a PlumAssist leak detection puck to expand its coverage area. It is not a standalone device — it requires a PlumAssist to function. The cable detects water contact along its length, making it ideal for wrapping around pipes, stretching across surfaces, or reaching into tight spaces where the PlumAssist puck cannot be placed directly.
When water touches the PlumSense cable, the connected PlumAssist puck triggers its alarm, sends a push notification, and (if paired with a PlumBuddy Valve) initiates automatic water shutoff.
Physical Specifications
- Type: Extension detection cable
- Connector: Plugs into the jack on the bottom of a PlumAssist puck
- Detection method: Water contact along the cable length
Detection Method
PlumSense uses contact-based water detection along the cable. When water bridges the detection elements on the cable, the connected PlumAssist puck registers a leak event.
How Detection Works
- Water contacts the detection section of the PlumSense cable.
- The connected PlumAssist puck detects the signal.
- The indicator light on the PlumAssist puck lights up.
- An audible alarm sounds from the PlumAssist puck.
- A push notification is sent to all users on the PlumBuddy account.
- If the PlumAssist is paired with a PlumBuddy Valve, the valve closes automatically.
Power
PlumSense does not have its own battery or power source. It is powered entirely through the PlumAssist puck it is connected to.
Connectivity
PlumSense does not have its own WiFi connection or app presence. It communicates exclusively through the PlumAssist puck’s connection. The PlumSense cable does not appear as a separate device in the PlumBuddy app — all alerts and status are reported under the connected PlumAssist puck.
Compatibility
- Requires: PlumAssist leak detection puck (sold separately or included in bundles)
- Connection: Plugs into the single jack on the bottom of the PlumAssist puck
- Important: The PlumAssist has one jack. When a PlumSense cable is connected, it replaces the included probe extender. You cannot use both at the same time.
Installation
PlumSense is a simple plug-in accessory:
- Inspect the cable for damage.
- Plug the connector end into the jack on the bottom of the PlumAssist puck.
- Route the cable to the desired detection area.
- Leave some slack — do not stretch the cable taut or put it under tension.
See the PlumSense installation guide for detailed instructions and placement tips.
Testing
After connecting the PlumSense cable to a PlumAssist puck:
- Dab a wet towel on the detection section of the cable.
- The PlumAssist puck should light up and sound an audible alarm.
- Check the PlumBuddy app for a push notification.
- Verify the correct PlumAssist puck triggered the alarm.
Clearing an Alarm
Dry the cable completely, wait 5 seconds, then clear the alarm in the app. The PlumAssist puck will return to its normal monitoring state.
Safety and Compliance
- Do not cut, splice, or modify the PlumSense cable
- Inspect the cable periodically for damage or wear
- Keep the cable away from heat sources that exceed the PlumAssist operating temperature range
- Do not submerge the cable connector end in water
